Kelly Byrne, CFA

CEO

Kelly Byrne is the founder and CEO of Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for delivering on the vision of bringing a passive product to the loan market. Kelly founded MPC in partnership with Eagle Point Credit.

Kelly spent the previous 18 years at Voya Investment Management, most recently as Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Capital Markets, where he oversaw the growth from $2 billion AUM to its peak of $30 billion. Kelly held a wide range of roles covering the spectrum of credit products and brings direct and deep experience in creating the systems and operations used to manage operational and performance risk in the credit space. With almost two decades of experience investing in loans, Kelly experienced first-hand a manual and analogue investment approach that is still largely applied to the current market. As loan market data and technology capabilities have evolved in recent years, Kelly and his team believe this is the right time to leverage these advancements to build an investment platform that is more adept to minimize active risk by optimizing processes and portfolio management.

Kelly received both his BSE in Biomedical Engineering and MBA from Arizona State University.

Tim Maloney Headshot

Tim Maloney

Head of Loan Trading

Tim Maloney is the Head of Loan Trading for Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for portfolio management, trading strategy, and managing sell-side relationships. Tim brings a wealth of product, industry, and operational experience in loan markets.

Prior to joining MPC, Tim was the Head of Leveraged Loan Portfolio Trading at Citigroup, with direct experience in leveraged loans, portfolio optimization, CLOs, and securitized products. In his role, Tim helped launch and run the CLO optimization business, which was the first of its kind across the sell-side and the leading portfolio trading business across banks by market share. He was also an inaugural member of Citi’s Market Technology Acceleration Lab, leading a development team to build cutting edge loan trading applications.

Tim received his BS in Finance and BA in Spanish from Virginia Tech.

Steve Rubich is the Chief Technology Officer of Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for developing the technology strategy to support the company’s vision for a data-driven investment platform and leading the technology team to implement state-of-the-art solutions.

Steve’s previous roles include Chief Information Officer at Contrarian Capital, Head of Technology at Viking Global Investors, and Head of Application Development and Enterprise Architect at Moore Capital Management. Across these roles, Steve has been instrumental in formulating IT vision and roadmaps aligned with business goals. He has extensive experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, enterprise integration, and mission-critical business applications. He has developed and trained cross-functional teams to modernize company-wide processes, enhance data management systems, and improve trading and investment platforms.

Steve received his BS in Management from Lehigh University with concentrations in Management Information Systems and Industrial Engineering.

Phil Li, CPA Headshot

Phil Li, CPA

CFO/COO

Phil Li is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for building and overseeing the finance, accounting, and operations functions. 

Phil has managed fund compliance, finance, and operations functions of CLOs for over 14 years. He was formerly the CFO and COO of Marble Point Credit Management (“Marble Point”), a $7.8 billion credit specialist asset manager focused on CLOs and broadly syndicated loans. Prior to its acquisition by Investcorp, Marble Point was a subsidiary of Eagle Point Credit. After the acquisition, he assumed the role of COO at Investcorp’s US Credit Management business, where he was responsible for the operational management, cost synergy implementation, and budgeting of a $12 billion structured products platform. Phil’s experience includes building the Finance, Accounting, and Operations functions of Marble Point since inception and successfully negotiating the acquisition of the company by Investcorp.

Phil received his BS in Accounting from Binghamton University.

Stas Leonov

Lead Platform Engineer

Stas Leonov is the Lead Platform Engineer at Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) as a full-time dedicated consultant and is responsible for the design and buildout of data ingestion and transformation within the MPC platform.

Stas has over 20 years of experience in developing and managing data-driven solutions, including analytics platforms, data warehouses, trading systems, and algorithmic trading platforms. He previously led design and development of analytics platforms and trading algorithms at Viking Global Investors, Deutsche Bank, and Investment Technology Group (ITG).

At Viking, he led a cross-functional team of developers, data engineers, and analysts to create and launch their flagship Alternative Data Analytics Platform, as well as the visioning and buildout of their equities Transaction Cost Analysis platform. As a Director and Product Manager at Deutsche Bank, Stas led the design and development of algorithmic trading platform and dark pool trading venue. As a Product Manager at ITG, he designed and built out their original equity trading algorithms for institutional clients.

Stas received his BS in Computer Science from NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering.

Jack Farr

Data Product Manager

Jack Farr is the Data Product Manager of Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for the vision, management, and design of trading operations and supporting data technologies.

Jack was most recently with Qualtrics as a Principal Systems Product Owner, Allvue Systems as Senior Project Manager, and The Hastings Group as a Systems Analyst/Designer. His experiences include managing and leading the roadmap for customer success technologies supporting $1.1 billion in annual recurring revenue, leading multiple implementations for CLO trading clients, and designing CMBS risk retention software for global financial institutions.

Jack received his BS in Economics from Northwestern University.

Steve Baydala

Loan Trader

Steve Baydala is a Loan Trader at Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for trading and operations.

Steve was previously at RBC Capital Markets as a Leveraged Loan Trader and Bloomberg as an operations representative. While at RBC, Steve helped build the operational and trading aspects of its inaugural Distressed Debt business. He also built the RBC Loan Risk system and managed the Loan ETF Creation Redemption Process.

Steve received his BBA in Finance from Loyola University Maryland.

Leo Liang

Data Engineer

Leo Liang is a Data Engineer at Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) and is responsible for creating and managing a custom data warehouse, data pipelines, and agile reporting.

Leo was previously with Lokavant as Director of Data Engineering and BeneLynk as a Data Engineer. His experiences include the design and build of a custom clinical trial metrics platform in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which is used by leading clinical trials research organizations.

Leo received his BS in Finance from Western University Ontario and his MS in Mathematical Finance from Boston University.

Amanda Krause, CFA

Director of Credit Analytics

Amanda is the Director of Credit Analytics at Mountain Point Credit (“MPC”) as a full-time dedicated consultant and oversees the quality and accuracy of issuers' financial data.

Amanda was previously a Vice President at Voya Investment Management, providing fundamental credit analysis for high yield rated issuers in the Consumer, Restaurant, and Business Services sectors, representing $1 billion of AUM. She started her career as a research analyst at Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research.

Amanda received her BS in Finance and Marketing from the University of Arizona.
